Everett L. Brooks, 84, of Mapleton, passed away at 4:27 p.m. on Sunday, August, 29, 2010, at home, with his family by his side.
He was born in Peoria on October 16, 1925, a son of Robert and Inda Losa (Branscum) Brooks. He married Mary J. “Joanie” Hammond in Peoria on June 5, 1976. She survives.
Everett is also survived by his children, Theresa (Stan) Friday of Peoria, Keith Brooks of Palm Bay, FL, Pam (Deny) Chiaravalle of Bartonville, Brenda (Steve) Suits of Peoria, Becky (David) Hamm of Bartonville, and Robert (Bobbi) Brooks of Farmington; siblings, Violet Montgomery of Washington, James Brooks of Bartonville, Elizabeth Willy of Peoria, Donna Griffith of Dunalp, David (Joann) Brooks of Bartonville, Kenneth Brooks of Florida, Frank (Joyce) Brooks of Mapleton, Ronald (Barbara) Brooks of Lakeland, FL, Richard Brooks of Peoria, Sandra Doubet of Peoria, Gary Brooks of Florida and Ed (Paula) Brooks of Bartonville; twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, earning the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He served on the USS LST 605 and USS LST 688. He was a member of the Limestone American Legion Post 979.
Everett retired on March 19, 1988, after thirty years of service, as a foreman for Peoria Plastic. After retirement, he was employed with Illinois Valley Plastic (IVP), until 2007.
He enjoyed playing guitar; fishing; listening to old Country & Western music; watching Chicago Cubs’ baseball; and spending time at the American Legion and his children’s houses for the holidays.
Everett loved spending time with his family, was very caring and was a great husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered for strumming his guitar, watching old Western movies and eating his ice cream.
He attended the Mapleton Church, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010, with the Rev. Keith Huff officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Kingston Mines Cemetery, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made in Everett’s memory to the Mapleton Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria.
